Your Mixed Shipment will include:

Calcareous 2010 Viogneir/Marson blend

This is just lovely (and I don’t use that word very often but it just seems to fit this easy light wonderful white wine) for the end of a long workday and/or the start to a fun evening.    This was perhaps my favorite wine to have after a day at the beach or pool this summer, after I have showered and had that slightly sunburned feel on my skin, and the feel of clean cool cotton against it as I headed down the street to watch the sun sink over the Pacific of just relax on my back patio with friends.   It tastes like sunshine and summertime to me with its crisp fruit forward taste without being too sweet.   Love it.

Calcareous  2008 Tres Violet

This is one of the most popular wines at Calcarous Winery and winner of the International Women's Wine Competition. It is a Rhone blend (42% Syrah, 29% Mourvedre, 29% Grenache) that has a perfume of blackberry and fig, with hints of cola and sweet cream.  It is a very good all-around wine that would pair well with cheese, sausage, pulled pork tacos, kalamata olives, and red sauces--but don't stop there!

Calcareous  2010 Zinfandel

I’m so excited we are able to offer this wine in the shipment.   Paso Robles is great terrain for Zinfandel grapes.   In fact, they are kind of the roots of this wine country.  Among the first to plant them, Johan Paderewski who came to the area in hopes the natural hot springs to be found in Paso Robles could help him with the pain that was ruining his world famous piano career.    He ended up bringing Zinfandel vines with him and found the CALCAROUS  (limestone) soil perfect for them, paired with the coastal breezes and warm afternoons.    Since moving home, Zinfandel has become my favorite varietal of red wine overall, to just drink without consideration of what food I’m pairing it with.    When I first tasted this 2010, I bought a case right off the bat and was so convinced I wanted to offer it in our first Ruby Shoes shipment, I reserved enough to be able to do so before the business was even up and running.

Calcareous 2009 Grenache

The nose begins with a swift hint of sage, white pepper and salted plums. These aromas continue to develop and drive the fruit out the glass, bringing up subtle tones reminiscent of a black currant puree. The mid-palate is loaded with ripe strawberries framed around a striking acidity that carries the wine into a persistent savory (earthy) finish. The tannins are velvety soft with apparent texture that will continue to soften with time. Enjoy with oven-roasted chicken, pork loin, and winter vegetables.  Drink from 2012-2017.

Calcareous 2011 Chardonnay

The rich honey color and heavy nose of melon and floral notes indicate a full bodied chardonnay.   On the palate, flavors of honeydew, pear and citrus frame the upfront fruit.  The fully malo-lactic dry wine produces a soft mouth feel while the subtle French oak provides for a well integrated finish.  This is without doubt a wonderful wine for the table to be paired with fruit and cheese plates or white meat dishes.

Calcareous 2010 Marsanne

The golden color and rich nose of cantaloupe and honeydew melon hint to a rich and complex Marsanne.  The upfront fruit is filled with lively acidity with flavors of honeysuckle and peaches.  The richness of the barrel fermentation shows in a creamy mid-palate texture and lengthy finish.
