Hot Fun in the Summertime

June is always busy with fun summertime events on the Central Coast, and this year is no exception.  So mark your calendars.   The San Luis Obispo County Wine Country association announces it's 23th annual
"Roll Out the Barrels" Summer Celebration will happen June 20 - 23.

The four-day celebration of the San Luis Obispo/Edna Valley wine region kicks off on Thursday, June 20 with "Barrels in the Plaza."   The event is held with backdrop of the historic San Luis Obispo Mission de Tolosa plaza.   Almost 30 wineries and two dozen restaurants will be serving.

There are also nice discounts for people who choose to book rooms in San Luis Obispo, and some new "Safe Ride" options for those who want to get out and about but not worry about getting behind the wheel with some wine in them.

"As part of a new partnership with the City of San Luis Obispo and area hotels, anyone who books a hotel room in San Luis Obispo will receive a $20 discount on their Passport to Wine Country ticket." said Heather Muran, executive director for SLO Wine Country.  This represents a 40 percent savings off the regular $50 price. This deal is available through <>;.

Another new offering is the "Safe Ride Touring Ticket." This $30 purchase allows attendees to enjoy shuttle service to and from the wine country. "Three different shuttles will be available to transport guests to different portions of the SLO wine trail," Muran said. Shuttle schedules and more details may be found at <>.

Here is a rundown of the "Roll Out the Barrels" main events:

Thursday, June 20: "Barrels In the Plaza"- general admission: 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (reserve VIP tasting is at 4:30 p.m.)  Live music from local indie band, "Fialta". Tickets are $40 and may be purchased at <>.

Friday, June 21: "Winemaker Dinners & Social Events" with participating San Luis Obispo Wineries.  Dine with a winemaker; enjoy barrel samples or learn about food and wine pairing. These are happening this weekend throughout SLO Wine Country.  For details and prices, visit <>.

Saturday, June 22 and Sunday, June 23, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m: "Passport Weekend"   The two-day Passport Ticket (Saturday and Sunday) allows visitors to enjoy the San Luis Obispo Wine Country's more than 30 wineries.   Many will be serving up wine and food pairings, reserve barrel tastings, entertainment and special discounts to purchase wine. Most of the festivities happen on Saturday, while Sunday is focused predominately on the wines and special discounts. Tickets are $50 and may be purchased at <>.
