It's one of the things that makes the Central Coast so special, and it's been my saving grace the last few weeks. My source of joy that can turn around any kind of day.
It's been a busy few weeks. I work for an NBC station and we carried the Olympics, so that meant an extra hour of news a night to anchor, a few extra projects and LATE nights. Sometimes we didn't go on air until midnight or later for our last (and 6th newscast of the day.) I knew it was coming, and kind of geared up for it, but it still took its toll.
But within the crazy month that was my last, there were moments where Beachlife took the crazy away for moments, or evenings, or mornings. And it's why I live here and think it's such a great place for anyone to pay a visit.
I live in a little beach-side community called Shell Beach. And most of my neighbors "get it". In otherwords, we get why we live here. We could all live in nicer, bigger homes in some suburb somewhere, likely have higher paying jobs, and well what? A professional sports team close-by to follow? But we find the entertainment options by simply walking down the street worth any trade-off.
So when I was in the middle of my last few weeks, I'd get these sporatic texts from those neighbors and friends that would take me out of any chaos I was experiencing. "Whales! Whales at the end of Boeker St!" "Dolphins! We have Dolphins at the end of Wawona." "The pelicans are putting on a show tonight! Get down here for sunset!"
And the minute I'd arrive, I would see what a magic place this is. And why I'm so grateful to be surrounded by Beachlife-lovers like myself who know a good show by Mother Nature can help you find your footing in an instant.
And all this as we sipped great local wines picked up on some afternoon drive to one of the area wineries. It really is a magic place, and I'm so happy to have a group of locals on the Ruby Shoes Roster who know how lucky we are to call it home, and who are eager to share it with all our fellow members I hope to see out here one day soon.
Cheers my friends! There's No Place Like Home and No Taste Like Home.
